Linda
Cantu loves to play Santa. As she shops and wraps gifts, she adds
special bows and holiday greetings, thinking about the joy she’ll be
bringing to hundreds of local children who will receive the toys and
clothing she’s amassed with both her own resources and from others in
the
community. Along with her husband, “Lolo”—a Corpus
Christi police officer—Linda is an organizer of
Dreams & Wishes, a project that reaches out to hundreds of
disadvantage families in Corpus
Christi. The effort is one of many ways this
energetic businesswoman gives back to the community she’s always called
home. To provide a healthy option for children living in the city’s
poorest neighborhoods, she and Lolo participate in the Corpus Christi
Police Athletic League, offering underprivileged players a chance to
play baseball for no fees. “The kids love us and we enjoy taking them
out to eat and to special events,” says Linda. “It’s great to see
children who may not have had the opportunity before, who are now
enjoying sports and having fun. We have hundreds of children who’ve
never had a chance to be on a team before, now participating.”
Family
Matters
With
the same compassion she puts into charitable efforts, Linda extends
herself for her own family. As a team mom, she supports her son’s
sports teams and her daughter’s activities. When she’s not involved
with community activities, helping clients with their investments
or cheering her own children on at sporting events, Linda likes to
escape with her family to MathisLake. “We love to go for the
day, to swim, ride our jet skis and have a barbecue,”
she says.
